This trekking route takes you far away from the usual tourist spots. It will lead you across high escarpments and to lush lowland valleys, passing traditional Amhara villages en route.
Reaching the summit is certainly challenging, but hugely rewarding. Having reached the peak of the mountain, you will continue along a tough ridge route, summitting several 4,000 metre peaks along the way. The trek beginning from Arkwasyie offers one of the most demanding days of your challenge as you leave the high plateau, crossing numerous steep ridges and deep valleys, descending 900m down the almost vertical Devil's Staircase and reaching Lamo, possibly the most beautiful region in the Simiens.
You will spend time in the capital, Addis Ababa, and in historic Gondar. These visits give you the unforgettable experience of seeing some of the incredible ancient culture that this fascinating and unique African country is steeped in.
