Charity walks

Not all of us are made for running. Many of us barely have the time to train for a marathon, while others are prevented by age, illness and other life factors. That does not mean, however, that we can’t all get out into the great outdoors and push ourselves for a good cause with a challenge walk for charity, as timeoutdoors' Challenges Editor Elaine Aronson explains.

Charity walks in the UK are on the up, with more and more people seizing the opportunity to join together and march to raise funds and spread awareness. Plus, it’s good for you!

A SOCIABLE EVENT
Unlike other, more solitary pursuits, a walk offers opportunities to talk with your fellow trekkers and support each other. Charity walking events can bring a unique sense of camaraderie and friendship as tens, hundreds or even thousands of people join together for one common cause. Furthermore, the whole family can take part in some of the walks - see the walks marked 'U18s' for those suitable for under 18s.

OPTIONS
Of course, simply going for a walk is not enough for some - the effort and ‘wow’ factor comes from covering a huge distance. Everyone knows about popular walks such as London to Brighton, but there are loads of other challenge walks out there including day walks, night walks, weekend treks and even multi-day pilgrimages!

Take a look through the charity walks below and click through for details of the challenge and charity/charities. You can enter a few basic details in the grey box on the right-hand side of the screen to be instantly emailed further information.
