A relatively undiscovered gem for walkers and cyclists
Croatia is becoming an increasingly popular destination for outdoor activity holidays, with walking, cycling, climbing, canoeing, kayaking and rafting all featuring.
Walkers can pick between relatively easy rambles, many of which are based around Zagreb, to more testing hill walks, with Dalmatia offering lakes, mountains, coasts and islands.
For cyclists the scenery is equally breathtaking and it's becoming increasingly easy to hire bikes, even in the more remote parts of the country.
Unspoilt rivers and stunning coastlines explain the popularity of a range of watersports and Croatia is best explored in the spring or autumn, rather than the heat of summer.
But due to the mild Mediterranean climate it is possible to visit almost all the year round, avoiding only the winter months due to snow in some mountains, much to the delight of Alpine climbers.
