Day 1: International departure from London.
Day 2: Arrival in Cusco.
We arrive in the ancient Inca capital of Cusco, standing at 3,350 metres above sea level. It's important to acclimatize to the altitude so the day is yours to relax and spend as you wish.
Day 3: Acclimatisation walk – Approx. 3 hours.
We’ll spend the day walking around the Cusco area including a picnic lunch. We’ll later head back to the city for dinner as we prepare for the challenge that awaits us in the morning.
Day 4: Cusco to Cuncani – Approx. 4-5 hours trekking.
This morning you drive out to the Sacred Valley, along the way you stop at a local market and the famous Lares hot springs. After lunch, it’s a long hike over high mountain passes to the small village of Cuncani, where we will camp for the night.
Day 5: Cuncani to Huacahuasi - Approx. 6-8 hours trekking.
A long hike to the small community of Huacahuasi will bring us into Llama and Alpaca territory – be careful though, they might try and share your picnic lunch! Our overnight stay will be a wild campsite beside the river.
Day 6: Huacahuasi to Ollantaytambo - Approx. 8-9 hours trekking.
A gradual ascent takes us through the Ranrayoc valley; our effort rewarded by the inspiring views that await us. Lunch will be served at 4,378m against the backdrop of snowy mountain Tirijhuay. A three-hour descent and an hour drive later we’ll arrive the campsite on the outskirts of Ollantaytambo.
Day 7: Ollantaytambo to Machu Picchu via Sun Gate - Approx. 6-7 hours trekking.
We board an early train to Km 104, where we’ll begin our trek toward the Sun Gate. We’ll climb 3,000 steps along the traditional Inca path to our first awe-inspiring view of the sacred site of Machu Picchu. There’s plenty of time for photographs and to enjoy the incredible surroundings on offer.
Day 8: Machu Picchu to Cusco.
We spend the morning further exploring the extraordinary Inca remains at Machu Picchu. We’ll finish the day back in Cusco, where we head for a celebratory dinner and chance to reflect on our experience and achievements.
Day 9: Depart Peru.
Day 10: Arrive in the UK.
