Cycling from London to Amsterdam – the bike capital of the world – is a classic European cycle experience. Passing through the pretty countryside of England, we cross the Channel and continue across the flat coastline of Holland towards our destination.
This is a great cycling challenge, suitable for all levels of experience. The sight of Amsterdam with its network of canals, cobbled streets and wonderful architecture is incredible. We celebrate our achievement with a night in Amsterdam before heading home.
Day 1: London – Harwich (Cycle approx 82 miles)
Setting out from north east London, we avoid the morning traffic head out to quieter roads. Soon we are in rural Suffolk; the route is reasonably flat as we head to Harwich. Overnight ferry to the Hook of Holland.
Day 2: Harwich – Amsterdam (Cycle approx 55 miles)
We arrive early and set off towards Amsterdam. Our flat, cycle-friendly route hugs the sandy beaches and dunes of the coast until we head inland, passing through Haarlem, the ‘tulip centre’. We ride past waterways and parks to our central finish point in Amsterdam. After a well-earned shower and rest, we celebrate our achievement in this vibrant city.
Day 3: Amsterdam – London
The morning is free for sight-seeing and exploring Amsterdam, before we catch the train back to the UK.
