Ride from the capital of Italy through vineyards and the Apennine mountains to the stunning azure-blue Tyrrhenian coast. The final challenge sees us tackle the undulating Amalfi coastline, with its dramatic corniche roads above hidden bays and colourful cliffside towns, on route to the vast archaeological site of Pompeii.
Every day brings a new challenge and a different taste of Italy!
Day 1: Meet Rome
We meet at our hotel and make sure our kit and bikes are fully prepared for the start of our challenge. You may have time to explore the ancient and iconic sights: St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican; the Colosseum and the beautiful Pantheon.
Day 2: Rome – Sperlonga (Cycle approx. 125km)
We leave Rome on a cycle path that runs beside the River Tiber. A predominantly flat day, we can relax as we pedal through historic towns and past fields of olives and vines. We follow part of the Appian Way, the ancient road from Rome. At the Tyrrhenian coast, we enjoy views over golden beaches.
Day 3: Sperlonga – Caserta (Cycle approx. 112km)
We follow the coastal road before heading into the green hills of Campania and through small villages, vineyards and olive groves. A final climb takes us up to historical Caserta, known for its royal palace.
Day 4: Caserta – Salerno (Cycle approx. 105km)
Today we tackle the Apennine foothills. The views of the surrounding steep-sided green hills keep us going, and there are some great descents and the last third of the day is predominantly downhill, leading us to the historic city of Salerno, with its colourful port.
Day 5: Salerno – Pompeii (Cycle approx. 80km)
Our last day brings more diversity, with a thrilling ride along the dramatic corniche roads of the Amalfi coast. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is stunning cycling, as we ride between the sea and picturesque terracotta-roofed towns nestled below the steep hills. We travel north towards Vesuvius, with our journey ending in sight of the famous volcano. Explore the ruins or relax before meeting up for an evening of celebration.
Day 6: Depart Pompeii
