Follow ancient footpaths between abandoned villages as you navigate wadis, canyons and dramatic coastline on your way to the summit of the spectacular Jebel Qihwi.
Experience speedboats up the coast, camping in the desert and campfires in secluded bays under the night sky strewn with stars as you head 'off the beaten track' in this incredible challenge.
Day 1 International departure from London.
Day 2: Arrival in Oman and acclimatisation.
Having arrived in the coastal town of Dibba, we will have time to freshen up and relax in the plantation camp, surrounded by green date palm trees. In the afternoon we can visit the local fisherman's market and watch today's catch being brought in on the small boats. Tonight we'll have a full challenge briefing to prepare for our the start of our adventure in the morning.
Day 3: Dibba to Smuggles Bay - approx. 6 hours trekking.
Our day starts with an ascent of a small wadi to begin our traverse of the spectacular coastline. We'll pass several small bays as we get our first taste of the steep, rocky terrain. As we ascend ever upwards, we get our first view of Smuggler's Bay, so-called because of the illegal immigrants who used to be smuggled abroad here. Upon reaching Smuggler's Bay, we'll have time to make camp before snorkelling in the clear blue waters.
Day 4: Haffa to Salhamdam - approx. 8 hours trekking.
Today begins with a short boat transfer to the remote fishing village of Haffa. Trekking uphill, we'll leave behind our spectacular views of the fjord from where we just travelled. We'll get our first real insight into traditional Omani life as we reach the village of He'el. Our next ascent takes us over the roughest terrain of the entire trek and will be a real challenge. The sensational views waiting at the ridge will make all our efforts worthwhile! Tonight we'll camp amongst the majestic mountains watching the sunset behind the peaks that surround us.
Day 5: Trek to Wadi Shamsi - approx. 6 hours trekking.
Ascending away from the settlement of Salhamdam, the path becomes more broken as we descend into the main Wadi Shamsi that cuts through the Musandam. We'll negotiate the steeper, gorge-like, wadi that lies in our path before scrambling up the other side and into possibly the most picturesque village yet. Here, we will see an old water channel system and a hauntingly beautiful old cemetery.
Day 6: Trek to the summit of Gebel Qihwi - approx. 6 hours trekking.
It's all uphill today as we make our way to our base camp at the foot of Jebel Qihwi. From the village of Aquabat, we wind our way along a jeep track to arguably the most spectacular part of the trek as we ascend to the summit of Jebel Qihwi (1,800m). After taking in the view, and contemplating our achievement, we will take 4x4's back to Dibba in time to relax with a celebratory meal in our hotel.
Day 7: Return to Dubai.
Our coach transfer will depart from Dibba and return us to Dubai for the flight home.
16 and 17-year-olds may participate in this challenge with the agreement of, and when accompanied by, a parent or guardian on the challenge who is of legal age.
Every childhood is worth fighting for.
Together we can help children who’ve been abused to rebuild their lives. Together we can protect children at risk. And, together, we can find the best ways of preventing child abuse from ever happening.
We change the law. We visit schools across the country, helping children understand what abuse is. And, through our Childline service, we give young people a voice when no one else will listen.
But all this is only possible with your support.
Every pound raised, every petition you sign, every minute of your time, will help make sure we can fight for every childhood.
