Iceland is a land of incredible beauty. Its wild volcanic landscapes, glaciers, hot springs, mountains and waterfalls, combined with its rich history and folklore make it a fascinating country to explore.
This incredible challenge will take us from the active Mt Hekla to Landmannalaugar before heading south to the permanent icecaps of Myrdals and Eyjafjallajokull. This trip is a challenging trek through a remote and wild environment – and presents a rare opportunity to witness a landscape which is changing before our eyes.
Day 1: UK - Reykjavik
Fly to Keflavik International Airport and transfer to our hotel in central Reykjavik.
Day 2: Reykjavik – Þórsmörk (Thorsmork) (Trek approx 4 hours)
We drive to magical Þórsmörk, beginning our trek in this dramatic green valley. We walk up to Valahnúkur, a spectacular viewpoint over glaciers and the Krossa River below.
Day 3: Þórsmörk– Fimmvörđuháls (Trek approx 7-8 hours)
We trek uphill onto Kattarhyrggir (Cat’s Spine) ridge and to a wide plateau, where sweeping views await – including the lava fall formed by the 2010 eruption. We continue to the lava field, where we can explore the fascinating craters.
Day 4: Fimmvörđuháls – Skógar – Reykjavik (Trek approx 8-9 hours)
Today is a magical descent from rocky plains to verdant green hills. We reach the the majestic Skógarfoss, one of the most impressive waterfalls in Iceland. This evening we celebrate in Reykjavik.
Day 5: Reykjavik - UK
Spend the morning exploring Reykjavik, or take an optional trip to the Blue Lagoon thermal spa before our afternoon flight home.
