Lying on the edge of the Arctic Circle, Iceland is home to some of Europe's most wild and dramatic landscapes. A country rich in history, natural beauty, volcanic regions, mountains, glaciers and more, make it an outdoor adventurers dream.
We'll trek through southern Iceland experiencing a variety of geothermal valleys and beautiful mountain scenery, staying in huts away from local towns in order to take advantage of the dark skies to give us a fantastic chance to see the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights)!
Upon arriving in Iceland, we'll transfer to our hut in Úlfljótsvatn ready for our challenge and our first chance to the Aurora Borealis.
Day 2: Lake Þingvallavatn - approx 4-5 hours trekking
For our first day trekking, we head to Iceland's largest natural lake, which in the winter is made more dramatic. Depending on the conditions on the day will determine our route; however we'll follow horse tracks and pass geothermal hotspots.
Day 3: Hveragerði - approx 4-6 hours trekking
A day in the hills and valleys near the town of Hveragerði, before descending into the Sauoardalur Valley (hot springs valley).
Day 4: Geothermal Valley - approx 4-6 hours trekking
We ascend into the hills from Reykjadalur and explore this dramatic valley, home to steam vents, hot springs and mud pools, which make for a stunning sight to see. You'll get the opportunity to have a dip in a natural pool before we continue our journey through the valley to meet our transport back to Reykjavík. Tonight, we'll venture into the city for a celebration of what we achieved.
Day 5: Reykjavík to London
You get the choice of a morning exploring Reykjavík or a trip to the world-renowned thermal spa, Blue Lagoon, before our afternoon flight home.
