Hilda is the secretary of Ilkley Harriers and jointly organises their beginner running groups, always keen to encourage others to take up the sport, try different routes and enjoy the support of the club.
She came to running relatively late herself, with her first race the Leeds half marathon (in under two hours) when she was 55. Since then she has surprised herself with improvements to capture club records at various distances.
She says that crucial to the success of the beginner groups is the help of many other Harriers throughout the course - and having an experienced coach in Jane Bryant leading the sessions in the first six weeks, calling her "inspirational" as she helps teach and motivate new runners achieve their goals.
