Located at the southern tip the of the rocky Canadian shield, Algonquin lends itself to a wide range of outdoor pursuits.
And canoeing is one of the most popular activities to do in Algonquin, with a great number of possible routes to take through the Park via canoeing and portaging.
Over 2,400 lakes and 1,200 kilometres of streams and rivers are located within the Park, allowing you to travel a path of your own choosing, reaching new heights and seeing sights that you cannot access by car.

Tim is the Program Development Coordinator at Northern Edge in Algonquin and has an in-depth knowledge of the area.
He coordinates and supports all aspects, taking on special projects that range from program development to promotions, receptive and group sales, team dynamics, group hosting, and website management.
A feat of strength that is much easier to do than it looks, get a picture of yourself solo-portaging a canoe for ultimate bragging rights.
Algonquin Park visitors in August may be within hearing distance of a pack of wolves - in the evening, call out to them with your best imitation, and you may hear their awe-inspiring response. No wolves in the area? The eerily-beautiful call of the loon is just as wonderful.
Stand in awe under more stars than you’ve ever seen before and see the Milky Way and its reflection off a calm, still lake.
Paddle within 10 feet of the majestic Moose as they feed, knee-deep in the water. See otters, beavers, fox, and a variety of birds.
Enjoy your morning coffee while mist rises from the lake, or sit with a loved one and watch the sunrise, sunset, or moon rise up over the lake.
Best times to go:
Peak season for canoeing and wildlife viewing in Algonquin Park is in July and August.
One of the best times to visit is during the Fall Colours (colours start to change around September 20th, and are at their peak around September 29. Colours die down in early October).
Winter also offers a great variety of other activities, from snow-shoeing to dog-sledding.
