Moose, wolves, otters, beavers, fox, chipmunks, squirrels, frogs, deer, and a great variety of birds and fish call Algonquin Park home.
And guests visiting via canoe or car will have the opportunity to see many of these animals as well as a great number of flora and fauna.

The Algonquin Park moose is a very large, gentle creature often seen wading through the water and eating reeds.
Most visitors to Algonquin Park will not ever see a wolf, but will have the opportunity to hear their spine-tingling howl at night.
The eerily-beautiful call of the loon is very similar to a wolf howl, however, unlike the wolves you very likely may see a loon swimming in Algonquin Park. Watch how long the loon disappears under the water to hunt for fish!
Visitors to Algonquin Park may find themselves paddling over or through old beaver dams along the Omable du Fond river. Beavers are located throughout the park, so it’s not unusual to find evidence of their homes.
Visitors to Algonquin Park are extremely unlikely to come across black bears during their trip - unless you are planning a stop-over at a local waste disposal facility! Some visitors really interested in seeing bears stop by the dump on their way home to do some bear-watching from the safety of their vehicle.
Best times to go:
Peak season for canoeing and wildlife viewing in Algonquin Park is in July and August.
One of the best times to visit is during the Fall Colours (colours start to change around September 20th, and are at their peak around September 29. Colours die down in early October).
Winter also offers a great variety of other activities, from snow-shoeing to dog-sledding.
