Follow one of the world’s toughest 100 mile routes - the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc, circumnavigating the highest mountain in the Alps, Mont Blanc. For runners who want to explore The Alps more or recce the UTMB.
The Chamonix valley, which sits at the foot of the majestic snow covered peak of Mont Blanc, is the location for this trip. Chamonix hosts the world famous UTMB (Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc) race and is a mecca for professional trail running athletes and the buzz of the town and the beauty of the trails provide an inspiring backdrop to a trail running adventure. Trails around this area are truly captivating with glaciers and summits round each corner.
Be prepared to be out on the trails for most of the day, walking uphill to take time to soak up the scenery. Much of the 'running' is actually hiking in the Alps. Runners of similar ability are grouped together. The trails on the TMB cannot be underestimated, and therefore it's important to do some training before you arrive, particularly multi-day hikes, have run marathon distance in 4 hours or less and have some experience on trails. You will have a kit check before set-off and walking poles are highly recommended. The Lead Runner will route-find and you will be running as part of a team.
Many steep sections with long climbs up hill. Expect long days out of up to 10hrs and cumulative ascent of around 3000m ascent for runners at these paces:
"Thank you for an outstanding trip. The route was unforgettable, the group was great and I learned a lot about my own running ability. I would definitely take a trip again and have lasting memories from this one." Sean 2019
