As any sailor will tell you, gliding across the waves using skill and judgement to harness the power of the wind is a wonderfully exhilarating feeling. For many enthusiasts, who spend every available weekend and holiday on the water, it's practically a way of life. And there are many ways to experience it:
Refers to any small boat equipped with a sail, used in inshore waters and not out on the open sea. In comparison with yachts, dinghies are small and light, nimble and manoeuvrable and can be a great way to learn the nuances of controlling a craft using sail and rudder. It's more affordable than yacht sailing, too. There are lots of courses and activity breaks to choose from.
Standing up on a relatively narrow board whilst controlling the sail, using your body weight to manoeuvre, is quite an art - but once you have learned the technique it's an addictive sport.
Sailing a yacht can be one of life's great pleasures - out on the open sea ploughing through the waves with the sails utilising the full power of the breeze. There's a huge variety of craft and a near-endless list of techniques to master to become an advanced sailor, so it's a constantly challenging and rewarding pursuit. Choose from dozens of courses for all levels, plus short sailing breaks and longer holidays.
