Event overview
North Shields Polytechnic Club is super excited and chuffed that this year’s race will also host Triathlon England’s National Aquathlon Championship for 2023. Participants will start on the beach at Tynemouth Haven and complete two 500m laps in the mouth of the River Tyne. At the end of lap one participants will leave the water in an Australian style exit, run a short way along the beach and then re-enter the water to complete their second lap. After finishing the swim participants will transition and start their 5k run by heading past the Collingwood Monument towards the River Tyne and continue towards North Shields Fish Quay. Runners will perform a U-turn and head back along the riverside promenade, past the race start, and along Tynemouth North Pier with the North Sea to one side and the River Tyne to the other. At the end of the pier participants will run around the lighthouse and head back towards the finish line positioned beneath the magnificent Tynemouth Priory. This race is as challenging as it is picturesque.
