Overview

One of the reasons for this is the scenic quality of the route which meanders and undulates past the spectacular sandy beaches on the west side of the island before climbing across a stretch of rugged, loch-strewn moorland and finally descending towards the finish in the vibrant ferry port of Tarbert. Historically, the Harris Half has occupied a special position as the last of the 5 half-marathons (Stornoway, Benbecula, Barra, Skye and Harris) which provide the framework for the HEB 3 CHALLENGE, a race series organised by Stornoway Running and Athletics Club. The challenge is to complete at least three of the five half marathons in any one year and prizes are awarded on the basis of overall aggregate times. This is the longest running series of half marathons in Scotland.
