With an interconnected network that stretches for over 2,000 miles throughout the countryside, fells and farms of the UK, rivers and canals provide an incredible opportunity to explore the great outdoors.
(Fun fact: the River Avon is interestingly named as "avon" means river in Welsh and Celtic. When the Romans arrived, they asked the locals what the river was called and got a bit confused.)
These events range from half-mile races to longer distance swims focused on simply enjoying the experience. All of them are supported by water safety teams and are organised experiences, so swimmers of any age and ability should feel confident in getting involved.
Many organisers will provide a branded swim cap for entrants to wear and keep as a memento, as well as feed stations for longer swims and opportunities to raise money for charity. For a fun experience that combines exercise with adventure, sign up to a river swim!
