Reducing your environmental impact is vital on all walks - especially the most popular routes like this UK classic.
Responsible National Three Peaks walking
The Three Peaks Partnership protects the landscapes around Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon. Here are their tips for planning your challenge whilst conserving the fragile mountain environment:
Pick a suitable date
It’s best to avoid public and school holidays and weekends, as they’re very busy and place huge pressure on local amenities.
Do it over 3 days
The physical challenge is the same and you’ll get more time to enjoy each mountain, while also reducing your impact on the area.
Plan your route carefully
There are many ways to climb each peak - some far more dangerous than others - so take time to research each ascent properly.
Take suitable kit
You need kit that can cope with whatever the mountains throw at you. The kit list in this section is a good starting point.
Register your challenge
If your group is larger than 10 people, you should register so the land managers for all three mountains are aware of your challenge. Click the image to register.
Make a donation
There's significant financial cost to the ongoing effort to reduce erosion due to heavy footfall, remove litter and debris dropped by hikers and promote the importance of respecting the mountains. Click the image to make the suggested donation of £1 per person per mountain.
Stay safe
The safety of you and your group is the number one priority. Don’t worry if you can’t make the summit - the mountains will be there another day.
