The place for sun, fun and a run.
Steeped in fascinating history, rich in natural splendour and surrounded by woodlands and countryside suitable for picnics, with plenty of hiking trails, cycling paths and magnificent countrified locations – not to mention the 4 miles of clean beaches and warm sea – there is something for absolutely everyone in Eastbourne, East Sussex, which is situated in the South East of England.
Voted the best summer town in the UK, Eastbourne is the sunniest town in Great Britain and an award winning holiday destination, the perfect place to unwind and enjoy time out or a holiday by the sea, in the stunningly beautiful and picturesque Sussex countryside.
Classified as a large town, Eastbourne offers stunning views of the English Channel and local countryside from atop the Beachy Head cliffs at the eastern end of the South Downs. Local facilities include two cinemas, four theatres, numerous parks, a bandstand, pier, art galleries and several museums. There are numerous bars, pubs, restaurants and night clubs to enjoy locally.
The award winning Waterfront complex can be found at Sovereign Harbour in Eastbourne. Enjoy the bars and restaurants, shops and cafes in northern Europe’s largest composite marina complex which boasts four linked harbours, a large free car park. Boat tours and charters also operate from Sovereign Harbour, which is located at the Eastern end of Eastbourne.
The race starts in Princes Park and mostly follows the seafront promenades towards Beachy Head and back to Sovereign Harbour, where the course loops back to the finish which is located in Princes Park.
The race starts and finishes on grass. The route is mainly flat but with a steep hill between miles 2 and 3. If you are not used to running regularly take it easy!
The first 3 miles head west along the seafront, raising as it heads towards the Meads. A steady climb between mile 3 and 4 which takes you to the top of Beachy Head Road where it then takes a sharp left down Upper Dukes Drive.
Downhill all the way until the course joins the seafront at mile 5. Heading east along the seafront, past the iconic pier, Fisherman`s Green and the Sovereign Centre until mile 8 where it joins the pavement on Prince William Parade.
The course now loops through the North and South Harbour crossing the internal bridges until at mile 12 it joins the seafront again and heads west towards the finish. The last 400 metres joins Royal Parade where the course then takes you back into Prince Park towards the finish line.
As you pass through Sovereign harbour, there are several tight turns, three pedestrian swing bridges and a small gravel slope which may be slippery. These bridges will be down for the 90 minutes, allowing the majority of runners through without a delay. After passing this time you may have to wait a few minutes for the bridge to lower.
Parts of the race (especially around Sovereign Harbour) will cross side roads and will be marshalled.
Water stations ill be provided at miles 3, 6, 9 and 12.
3 hrs 30 minutes.
