10,000 Steps a day challenge

All ages

  • 1 month

You can start your four week challenge of walking 10,000 steps a day on any day in February to mark Heart Month. Set yourself a small fundraising target of £100 or more to help to achieve it and help reduce preventable disease from high cholesterol.

Do it anywhere outdoors or on a treadmill, at any time of day, on your own or with a friend, relative or colleague. It can improve your overall health and help lower your cholesterol.

How it works

  1. Use a tracker device to measure your steps. There are lots to brands to chose from on the market and free tracker apps you can access to record your progress (e.g. Fitbit, Strava).
  2. Download the Outwalk App (compatible with both Android and Apple), add your colleagues to create a steps leaderboard.
  3. Set up a Just Giving page for Heart UK and set your £100+ fundraising target.
  4. Share your Just Giving page with friends and colleagues via Facebook or email to boost your sponsorship. Why not get started by sponsoring yourself?
  5. Share your progress and photos by regular up-dates at the beginning of the challenge, each week, just before the end and afterwards.
  6. If you so wish, you can link your fitness app with your Just Giving page to show your progress and walking routes.

Sign up today and make a difference to yourself as well as people with high cholesterol!

'Doing the 10,000 steps a day challenge was a personal achievement. Getting sponsorship meant that I had to go through with it. Knowing that I was helping myself and the charity at the same time kept me going each day. Sheila Nardone, Senior Fundraising Manager at HEART UK.
