Overview

The course takes you through the trees onto the beautiful winding woodland trails, which once hosted the Commonwealth Mountain and Ultra Distance Running Championships. Perfect for runners of all levels, the Anglesey Trail 10K offers stunning views and an unforgettable trail running experience in a compact, exciting route. Winding through the stunning Newborough Forest and along sections of Llanddwyn Beach, the course combines firm forest trails with coastal stretches and glimpses of Eryri (Snowdonia) in the distance. It’s an unforgettable mix of challenge and beauty — the perfect way to experience the spirit of Anglesey’s trail running scene in one exhilarating race.

Route description

Start by running on the wide stony forest track alongside the beach, where you’ll catch glimpses of the Llyn Peninsula before running out onto Llanddwyn Island. After the island, the trails lead further into the pine forest and onto single-track and sandy running. The course loops around to a final section on the path that forms the border between the forest and the open Newborough Warren, with open views out to sea. A final right turn brings runners onto Traeth Llanddwyn, along the beach and back to where they started and a hero's welcome from the spectators on the finish line!

Probably the best forest trail half marathon I’ve done and I’ve done quite a few! What sets this race apart are the beach and sand dune sections, which combined with the forest trails make it a glorious race for all fitness and speed levels. Despite gnarly weather with strong winds and heavy rain, I really enjoyed it and even posted my second-best time of the year. The course is flat in places, very well marked, with friendly marshals and well-stocked aid stations. Some stunning coastal views and a fun, varied route make this a race I’d happily do again. There is always a relaxed atmosphere at Always Aim High events and this was no exception. Set in the amazing forest at Newborough, the 10k route was challenging, varied and great fun, with forest trails, roots, sand and even sections along the beach. Despite gale-force winds and rain, the tree cover helped and the whole experience was fantastic. Great organisation, well-stocked feed stations, quality t-shirt and medal, and plenty of food at the finish made this a brilliant trail race that I would gladly do again. (shortened) Clive P
