Event overview
If you like beautiful races in beautiful places, like fun, like medals and like goodies then this event is for you.
You'll enjoy a bespoke medal and lots of goodies at the finish line.

This event is part of the It's Grim Up North calendar of runs, offering a range of distances and levels of difficulty so there is something for everyone.
Famous for its low-key approach, all runners will be greeted with a warm smile and friendly chat.
The aim is to get you out running, help you enjoy the beautiful countryside with great camaraderie and for you to experience the sense of well-being you get when you cross that finish line.
You'll be shown that the North is anything but Grim.
Set on the edge of the beautiful North Yorkshire Dales, Masham play host to both the Black Sheep Brewery and the Grim Up North Six hour Challenge.
You don't have to run for 6 hours!
The event gives you the opportunity to challenge yourself running as many loops as you can in the six-hour window, before ringing the bell and collecting your medal, a beer and a sausage sandwich (alcohol free and veggie options).
This event is part of Blacksheep 3 and 6 Hour Challenge.

How it works
Every time you complete a lap you will be given a band to put onto your wrist, you can do as many laps as you want and when you decide to finish you can ring the bell, this will indicate to the official timers that you have finished.
You can do as many laps as you wish if you pass the start/finish area before the 3 hour/6 hour cut off, meaning if you go through at 2hrs 59 minutes/5 hours 59 minutes on the official’s timer you can go on to do another lap (although we may not love you for it).
Lap measurements:
- 5K – 1 loop
- 10K – 2 loops
- 10 miles – 3 loops
- Half Marathon - 4 loops
- 16.5 miles – 5 loops
- 20 miles – 6 loops
- 23 miles – 7 loops
- Marathon – 8 loops
- Ultra Marathon – 9 loops and above
- The race starts and finishes in the same place

First time at Masham and what a brilliant event. Course has lots to keep you concentration on but the atmosphere and friendliness was superb. Definitely one to do again and the food at the end 😋 Tamzen M
This was my first time running a trail having completed several road 10k's and I have to say I am hooked! The route was fantastic, lots of beautiful scenery and a mix of paths, fields and road running. The goodies at the end were amazing and even my kids got cake! Only criticism (and it's really minor) is there is no date on the medal/ribbon. Highly recommend anyone who has done road running to give the trail a bash. Emma N
A fantastic event that was brilliantly organized and marshaled. The route is both scenic and occasionally challenging, but a joy nonetheless. The friendliness and supportive nature of the organizers, marshals and fellow participants was outstanding , as was the medal and well-stocked aid table in the start/finish area. The sausage bun at the end was a definite treat! Congratulations to everyone involved. Stuart M
Absolutely love this race, such a beautiful route and the team are outstanding - the support is amazing. Each lap is around 5.5km and you pass a well stocked food and drink station on every lap at the start/finish area. Well signposted route. The goodies when you finish are always worth the run - with a fantastic medal and lots of treats including a BBQ. Thanks again team - you are amazing. Caroline D
Excellent event as always with fantastic support from the team and other runners. Great atmosphere and a fantastic day. Theresa T
As ever the Grim team did a brilliant job. Beautiful setting, well organised, probably one of the best Grim events I've done. Loads of support from the marshalls, locals and fellow runners. Awesome event. Andy D
Brilliant race as always, great marshalls supporting and lovely cakes, food and goodies. Kathy R
This is the first time I have completed this event, and it was a cracker! On the day, there was a Sheep Fair, (welcome to Yorkshire), in Masham which helped with the crowds and the support. Each lap was 3.4 miles which took in woodland trails, open fields, paths along the river, along a golf course and through the market square in Masham. Steve I
My first blacksheep challenge. Registration was quick and simple and the brief was clear. The 3.33 mile loop was a great mixture of road, grass and woodland and was genuinely undulating. Great support from the other runners and marshals (such a friendly running club). The stiles got interesting on the later laps as my hips were less interested in getting over then. At the end the usual array of cakes were augmented by a delicious hotdog. Great medal and blacksheep beer. A great day. John W
This was the second year that I have done this event. It is trail and on a 3 mile loop. The loop has several gates and styles which become more difficult as time goes on, bu the IGUN team are supportive and encouraging. The beer, sweets and sausage butty at the end mean the pain is soon forgotten. An awesome challenge. Helena C
