Event overview
The race route takes in The North Pennines Nation Landscape and UNESCO Global Geopark describes as “a stunning landscape of open heather moors, dramatic dales, tumbling upland rivers, wonderful woods, close knit communities, glorious waterfalls, fantastic birds, colourful hay meadows, stone-built villages, intriguing imprints of a mining and industrial past” The area has many distinctive geology, landscape and flora features, significant archaeology and supports important biodiversity in a range of key habitats. The event will start at centre-stage in the main show ring with a steep climb to start on a gravel track past Pennypie House (on the Pennine Journey trail) and onto the moors. From the top of the climb, you will cross the trail heading breifly into Slaley Forest (the 1/2 does a big loop of the forest), before popping back out onto the moors where the 10k and 1/2 merge. You’ll then pick up The Carriers’ Way and follow that back to Blanchland. Race distances and elevation: 10k - Approx 7 miles and 900ft of ascent. Race distances and elevation: 1/2 - Approx 13.5 miles and 1400ft of ascent.
