Event overview

With the start and finish in the park in front of Eastbury House runners will follow an entirely off-road route taking them through woods into the park at Chettle.

Highlights

  • Bloody Shard Gate

Turning back towards Eastbury House the eerie journey continues through Bloody Shard Gate, scene of a bloody skirmish between soldiers and the King's chase keepers, which resulted in a sergeant losing a hand.

  • The restless hand

This was then buried in a local church yard but frequently becomes restless and can be seen searching for its owner in this corner of the Cranborne Chase.

  • The midnight ghost

Then it's past the Chettle Long barrow before returning to the Eastbury Park, where the drive also has a ghost, a headless horseman driving a coach pulled by headless horses. Fear not, this only happens at midnight, so all the more reason to up the pace whilst out on the course!

What a lovely route in the dark.. Well, we mostly marshal Tri Counties so it was lovely to have a jog out. Ruth B

Great event locally. Will definitely participate again. Dave B

Excellent route. An excellent route. James N

What a night. My very first 10k, and of course, I thought doing it in the dark was a good idea! Holly S

Anxiety of turning up as a singleton to fun and creating new friends, Debbie B

A great event, Neil B

Great route with added difficulty and fun of being in the dark! Some parts were not very clearly marked and could have taken a wrong turn, the ending was also not well marked. Sophie T

Enjoyable Phil H

My favourite Tri-Counties event of all. Colin H

Amazing run, will be back next year. Please add brighter and more lights along the course so we don't get mixed up and lost. Amy L

A run is what you make it. This Dark Dorset run was fun. Both my uncle and I enjoyed it and met some lovely runners on the route. Sonya B

Very enjoyable and a good course. Only small criticism is that I came in towards the back and was very confused about where the finish line was ! Amanda A

Welcoming Alex B

Fabulous. What a great race trail running at its best. Vivien M

Great fun. Maybe just some more lights at end to show you where to run to finish - was a bit confusing Jo S
