Event overview

In memory of Pennine Fell Runner Darren Holloway, this race is based on the original Buttermere Horseshoe. The route is flagged to the fells at Lanthwaite Green, but once on the tops there is much route choice between checkpoints. Descent from Mellbreak is via the col between North and South summit - the route off the North is out of bounds and much slower anyway. The so called 'short' route is also available but note that this is still classed as an "AL" and is still a very challenging course and is not suitable for novice fell runners. Please note that it is highly likely that it will be cloudy on the tops, it is also likely that you will be on your own at times with no-one in sight, therefore you do need to navigate and be experienced in running in the fells in whatever weather the Lake District can provide. Note that GPS is not allowed for navigation and the route is not flagged on the fells. Much needed refreshments at the end.
