The Deal 10K race, now in its 42nd year, is called "The Dinosaur" in fond memory of club co-founder Roger Francis-Darby, who sadly died of skin cancer in 2000.

During his competitive running, duathlon, and multisport career he often referred to himself as an old dinosaur (despite being in his mid-50's) so when he passed away, we changed the name of the Deal Regatta 10k to the Dinosaur 10k. We give a significant percentage of the profits from the race to the Canterbury Hospital Skin and Dermatology Department each year, as well as donating to the Deal, Walmer and Kingsdown Regatta Association. Deal Tri would like to thank all the sponsors and entrants who make these donations possible. A 1500m junior fun run for ages 14 and under precedes the 10K race.
