Kids triathlons

The thrill of racing and the buzz of an event atmosphere are equally appealing to kids and adults, which is why these triathlons have been created specifically for children.

Every part of the event is managed to make sure that the competitors are safe and that parents can keep an eye on their kids the entire time. According to UK Triathlon, the entire event takes place within the event venue so no roads are included on the cycle. The cycle and run legs are multi-lapped and usually run on grass.

The distances are adapted for different age categories to make sure that no-one over-exerts themselves. For instance, 8-11 year olds complete a 50m swim, 2K cycle and 1K run, whereas 13-16 year olds complete a 150m swim, 4K cycle and 2.5K run.

While it's fantastic to get kids involved in sport and outdoor exercise from an early age, all of these events are non-competitive so all children are rewarded for taking part. Racing is still an option as times are recorded but it's not the priority in getting involved.

How long is a kids triathlon?

This depends on both the event organiser and which age category the race is aimed at, but in general the distances are kept short to allow a great experience. Older teens might tackle a 5K run, for example, while younger kids will usually only run around 1.2K.

How safe are kids triathlons?

These events are well organised and marshalled, as well as usually being held on closed roads to eliminate any danger from road traffic. The races have been created specifically for kids so all considerations have been made!
