English Riviera Triathlon

Devon's only closed-road triathlon. Start with a great sea swim in warm waters then on to the bikes for a closed road and flat bike leg. Finally there's a run with views of the sea.

Event overview

The English Riviera Triathlon offers fast exciting spectator-friendly racing in the centre of Torquay.

It starts with a sea swim from sheltered Torre Abbey Sands beach. The bike is based on a fast and mostly flat 4K closed road bike circuit. The final single-lap run is mostly flat on tarmac or pavement with great views of the sea. Torre Abbey meadows provides ample space for a transition area on grass, a long barriered finish line, podium presentations and a small event village.

There are also open water swims of a few different distances plus swim-bike (aquabike) and swim-run (aquathlon) options.

Great venue in the heart of Torquay.

  • Plastic bottle free
  • Recycling
  • Sustainability policy
  • Trees not tees

Sportiva Events is doing its best to minimise the environmental impact of this event. Here are a few of their initiatives:

Sustainability

  • Trees not tees

For all events which include a t-shirt, there is the option to plant a tree instead through a partnership with Treesnottees

  • Avoid single-use plastics

New paper cups have been sourced to be fully recycled back into high-grade paper.

  • Optional medals

Lots of competitors are not interested in finishers' medals so they are now optional. A Β£2 charity donation is made for every medal not selected.

  • Swim hats on request

Swim hats are provided for open water swimming events as they help the water safety teams keep track of swimmers. However for all pool events, swim hats are now on request to reduce wastage.

  • Reuseable zip ties and recycling

Reusable zip ties are used and all rubbish is sorted for recycling after the event.

  • Reducing car use

At the Burrator 10K running race those who commit to walking or cycling to the event get Β£5 discount.

Thank you so much for a fantastic event. It was so well organised and so friendly. Really enjoyed the day. Thank you. Natalie P

A fantastic first time doing a sportiva event and my first ever standard distance triathlon. The course was very well organised and a great route. The professional photos were also great which showed that I really did smile through every minute!! Would recommend to anyone wanting to race, especially a first timer and I would do this race again! Thank you so much for organising this event, fab in every way! I really hope the event will be on next year! Kerry C

This was a great event. The atmosphere was superb and the marshals were all very supportive and encouraging. Linda D

Excellent event. As per usual with sportiva events a friendly locally organised no frills event. A rare treat to cycle on closed roads. Setting was lovely. Thank you. Robert S

Very good event. Great to have closed roads and well laid out routes. Luke W

Good fun, good atmosphere. Janet B

Supportive and friendly atmosphere. Fantastic venue for family and friends spectators with the laps easily accessible to view. Superb marshalls and public tannoy system. Greg B

This is a great race for those looking for a sea swim, with a reasonable entry fee, and travel is easy enough with the event centre next to a train station. MIchael T

I love the Sportiva events and this one is no different. the right balance between well-organised and suitably low-key. The routes for the swim bike and run were great. Fantastic being closed roads well. I would highly recommend this to others both novices and seasons competitors. Jamie D
