Event overview

Gravel racing finally arrives in the South West!

Now’s your chance to try your hand at this fast growing branch of the sport.

This lapped off-road course is mostly on gravel fire roads. So it’s perfect for gravel bikes but also well suited to CX bikes or mountain bikes. This race will be electronically chip timed. Everyone will finish on the same lap so even if you get lapped you will finish within a few minutes of the winner.

Bike types

  • Gravel bikes
  • Mountain bikes
  • Cross country bikes
  • Electric gravel bikes
  • Electric mountain bikes

For this event, a gravel bike will be quickest, with tyres in the 38-40mm range. Less experienced or skilled riders will probably find a mountain bike easier and more comfortable. The 'gravel' in Devon and Cornwall is very mixed; there is some perfect 'Champagne gravel' but also a lot of more mixed terrain, including rocks, pebbles and sand.

There are no rocks worth mentioning so narrower CX tyres should also be fine. In fine conditions, the course will be fully rideable with no dismounts required.

Excellent, well organised event. Jim M

What a great event. First off-road, mud, gravel race and loved it. Horrific conditions so felt a great achievement to just finish. Thanks πŸ‘ Forbes P

Despite the relentless onslaught of horrendous weather conditions, the Exeter gravel bike race proved to be an unforgettable adventure that showcased the true spirit of camaraderie among participants. The atmosphere was electric, and the sense of unity against the elements created an unbreakable bond among the riders. Jonathan G

This was an excellent event, very well organised. The organisers did an amazing job, especially due to the awful wet & windy weather conditions. The course was planned really well, and I really enjoyed racing on it. I will definitely return if the event is repeated. David A

A well organised event with a fantastic course which was made even more testing by the appalling weather! Despite torrential rain, the organisers kept the event flowing and it appeared to be enjoyed by both novices and seasoned competitors. I'm looking forward to a sunny race and fast conditions next year. Robert C

Despite the horrendous conditions, I really enjoyed the race. Great course with lots of challenging aspects to it. Mr W
