The Golden Gates Gallop – A Race with Heart and Heritage. Born in 1986 from a local resident’s passion for running and raising money for charity, the Golden Gates Gallop has become one of Derbyshire’s most loved community races. Now celebrating its 40th anniversary, this special edition promises to be the biggest and best yet. Starting beneath the iconic Napoleonic “golden” gates, runners take on a 5-mile, two-lap route through the beautiful grounds of Elvaston Castle, tackling the famous “gallops” before finishing at the buzzing race village at Elvaston Cricket Club. The 2-mile fun run offers families and first-timers the chance to join the celebrations on a single scenic lap. Over the decades, the event has raised tens of thousands of pounds for Blood Cancer UK, and this year we’ll mark the milestone with anniversary medals, throwback race memorabilia and a lively festival-style village filled with food, drink, stalls and entertainment. Whether you’re chasing a PB or joining in for fun, 2026 is the year to be part of Golden Gates history.
