Event overview

Born in 2013 as an 'anytime challenge' The Ilkley Skyline has quickly established itself as a classic fell running route that encompasses the moors surrounding Ilkley.

Starting and finishing at the Hermit in Burley Woodhead, the 22-mile loop includes Beamsley Beacon, Round Hill and the summits along Burley Moor, Ilkley Moor and Rombalds Moor. In fact, this route covers at least eight moors. Most is fell or field running with some short sections of road, the longest section being the climb up from the river at the stepping stones through Burley back to the Hermit.

The race will include a number of checkpoints plus two aid stations at Addingham and Timble. It is unmarked, so runners will require a route map and/or GPX file and is 100% on accessible land. Recces are encouraged but not essential.

The current records are:

  • Sarah McCormack 02:49:42
  • Tom Adams 02:17:11

Headphones

Ideally not. It really is better to hear your fellow runners, listen to your breathing, and take in the atmosphere. But if you feel you just can’t run without them, headphones may be worn as long as you take responsibility for the volume to be low enough for you to hear all marshal instructions and the words of those around you. When approaching junctions or road crossings, you may be instructed to remove them until it is safe to put them back in.
