Event overview
The challenging course takes you around Derwentwater with an extra loop beforehand into the Newlands valley. The half marathon is organised by Keswick Rugby Club to raise money to operate a successful grass roots rugby program developing all age groups with quality coaching and the necessary equipment. We’re proud of the levels of involvement and inclusivity that we achieve within the town and surrounding area and boast mixed junior teams, seven junior boys teams, four junior girls teams, two senior men’s teams and a senior women’s team. Not bad for a town of roughly 5,000 people! New for 2026. We’re excited to have partnered with Events Up North, to provide chip timing for the first time in the race’s history. Your chip will be embedded in your race number. Chip timing will provide us with a slicker results system with a live results feed directly onto our website. Feedback we never tire of hearing is how great our marshals are. The event is staffed by a huge team of volunteers from the rugby club and the local community and we’re often told that it’s their enthusiastic encouragement and support that gets the runners around the course! Come and take part in this very popular annual event; we appreciate that we’re biased but believe wholeheartedly that it is the most scenic 13 miles 192.5 yards in the country. If the running doesn’t take your breath away, the elevated views of Derwentwater certainly will. A runner emailed after the 2025 race to say ‘This half marathon meant so much to me, I have got my mojo back!.’ For us, this sums up the event perfectly. Thank you, Mark.
