Recce days

There will be seven recce days over the coming months, each recce day is guided by a member of the NAV4 Team who have endless experience of skills and safety.  The team are happy to impart their knowledge along with hints and tips on how to best cover each section of the event route.  These days are an excellent opportunity to get to know the route, get hints on the best line for you and to brush up on your navigation skills. This is also the perfect opportunity to try out your kit, figure out what you need, how you will carry it and when to use/not use the items you have with you.

There are also two skills based sessions, one offering a half day on Hallsfell Ridge for those nervous of the terrain and the other is ‘LiAD Skills on The Dodds’ with an enhanced navigational and hillskills input.

  • Ambleside to Cartmel
  • Caldbeck to Threlkeld
  • Helvellyn to Ambleside
  • LiAD: Skills on The Dodds
  • Caldbeck to Threlkeld
  • Hallsfell Skills Sessions

Stunning views, excellent aid stations with proper toilets, the most helpful and supportive marshals I've known and some great challenging terrain. One to sign up for. Nicola J

It felt like real ‘living on the edge’ adventure, especially for someone coming from such a flat area of the country. I must say that despite the weather, I did most of this first section with a smile on my face and a real sense of enjoyment. Paul W

The course is beautiful and the start time means you get that classic 'outrun the sun' experience, starting in the dark, running through a gorgeous sunrise on the fell tops, and then smashing out the miles as it goes down as well. Fiona P

  • Bring your own cup
  • Plastic bottle free
  • Sustainability policy

This event is trying to raise its sustainability game. Yes, it's small stuff, but it's a start, and every bit helps. There are two main changes:

  • Cups

Feed station cups are this event's biggest source of waste so it is completely stopping the use of them. There will be no cups at feed stations. You will need to bring your own hydration system, whether this is a camel back, hydration vest, soft bottle or simply bring your own collapsible cup, carry this with you and it can be topped up at the feed stations.

  • T-shirts

Many of you love and use them, however, some of them get disposed of without ever getting used. So, when you enter you will have the option to choose "No T-Shirt". The cost of your entry will remain the same, and the equivalent of the cost of your T-Shirt will be donated to the selected charity.
