Event overview
Land’s End to John o’ Groats (LEJOG) is the traversal of the whole length of the island of Great Britain – a long standing route from the southwestern tip to the north-eastern tip of the UK; from Cornwall through the Cotswolds; Wales; the Scottish lowlands, and finishing off in the Scottish Highlands – a windswept land of glacial lakes and an economy of trees. A succession of different terrains, architecture, and history. Randonnees are traditionally non-competitive/non-commercial long-distance cycling events where the emphasis is on completing the route and distance within the time limit. The LEJOG 1400 is a 1405 km cycling event organised by Burnley CC and sanctioned by Audax UK (AUK). The event is a randonnee, not a race! Those taking part will have a maximum of 116-hours & 40-minutes to complete the challenging 1405 km (or about 875 miles in our money!) route. As a self-supported endeavour, at 1400 km and with about 15000 metres of climbing LEJOG isn’t the longest or toughest event in the Audax world but is certainly one of the most challenging and probably one of the most memorable. Unlike other famous out-and-back long-distance Randonnees, such as PBP & LEL, LEJOG is a one-way route heading in a south-north direction across the length of the UK so you’ll have just 116 hours & 40 minutes to get from one end of the country to the other, so come and join us in this very memorable Randonnee in 2024. The LEJOG 1400 is a physically demanding route with an estimated 15000 metres of climbing spread over 1405 km with many of the roads crossing some wild and exposed moorland using all types of roads and is an event intended for experienced cyclists, preferably with experience of Randonnees and/or long-distance cycle tours so please only enter and attempt the event if you are confident in your own ability.
