All abilities

This ride fuses exhilarating riding with a superbly organised route and is open to riders of all abilities.

Training

The right preparation is the key to enjoying this event. But knowing how to train for a mountain bike challenge can often be tricky. So the British Heart Foundation has teamed up with the experts at Full Potential, who have put together an intensive 16-week training plan.

The plan has been built on the basis that you are a capable cyclist, but may be new to off-road biking. It is suitable for both beginner and advanced riders, as the plan is based on time riding and building up fitness.

Kit list

A comprehensive kit and equipment list is readily available to help you prepare.

Bike type

Hardtail MTB.

Due to the rough and varying terrain a hardtail MTB is best suited to this ride, although a short-travel full-suspension or gravel bike would also be suitable.

Description

Starting at Apps Court Farm, you'll quickly pick up the Thames Cycle Track and enjoy amazing scenery across the river as you head out of the city. You'll see stunning views as you cycle through Weybridge, Shere, Southwater Country Park and Steyning, before taking on the monster climb to the top of Truleigh Hill, where you’ll be able to see as far as the sea! Then it's all downhill to Hove where you'll be cheered across the finish line and receive your all-important medal.

Terrain

The route includes 1,295m of climbing on rough and varying terrain. It is a real mix of tracks, with hard surfaces through to dirt and gravel, with roots, grass, sand and stones.

In order to get you to Brighton safely, there are some small road sections - these are just to connect you to the next bit of exhilarating mountain bike riding - but don't be disheartened if you're met with a small section of tarmac.

Cut off time

Each rest stop will have a cut off time that you must try to make. If you fall behind these cut off times the helpful team of marshals and the ride support team will advise you of your options.

Checkpoints

There will be regular checkpoints out on the route, where you will be able to access important necessities such as toilets, water and medical and mechanical support.

British Heart Foundation

Power research with every mile.

Completely planned, organised and managed by the British Heart Foundation, this event exists in order to raise funds for life saving research. This year you are asked to try and raise at least £200 to make a difference.

Creating an online fundraising page is the easiest way to raise money. It takes a few minutes to set up and a link can then be easily shared with your friends and family on social media and by email.

By taking part in this challenge you'll be supporting and raising money that will help BHF beat heart and circulatory disease.

Free MTB top

If you smash your £200 target by midnight on Sunday 25 August 2024, you'll be sent an exclusive London to Brighton Off Road Bike Ride MTB top to wear with pride on the big day!
