Event overview

Heading straight into the beautiful Surrey Hills we’ll quickly climb up the North Downs, leaving views of beautiful London behind us. Walking past Lavender Fields and through ancient Banstead Woods, they’ll be no shortage of gorgeous sights as we get this epic challenge well and truly underway! As we cross under the M25, and continue through rolling hills to the lovely Headley Heath and up to the top of Box Hill, we’ll be spoilt with amazing views over Surrey and Sussex all the way to the South Downs. The route then rises up (and up) as we climb more than 1500 feet in little more than 10 miles. Denbies Vineyard to the top of Ranmore Common, then steeply down to Westcott before climbing again slowly through dense woodland. This section feels a long way from London. The route passes by the delightful Leigh Tower, the summit of which is the highest point in South East England. The final section of Day 1 is arguably the easiest, but fighting inevitable fatigue, you won’t feel it! Winding around the secluded Vann Lake, through wonderful countryside and a deer park before reaching Horsham and your hotel for the night. Day 1 is done! Get a shower, some food and some well earned rest! We do it all again tomorrow! Day 2 passes through the expansive St Leonard’s Forest, beautiful historical Slaugham village and then via Cuckfield to Haywards Heath with views of the South Downs on the way, getting closer! Rolling down to the South Downs the walk follows paths through surprisingly rural sections of Haywards Heath out into the Sussex countryside and ends right at the base of the now towering South Downs. The final 10-mile stretch and probably the most scenic and varied of the day, passes through pretty Clayton with its ancient church, rising sharply up the South Downs to the Jack and Jill Windmills. Then across the rolling South Downs and some woodland to emerge 10 minutes from the seafront in Kemp Town. From here, it’s a breezy walk along the promenade to the glorious finish at Brighton Pier.
