Overview

Moor to Sea Sportive has run since 2012!

It's been moved to Sunday and a slightly later date to ensure quieter roads - plus there have been a few improvements to the course to take out some dirty roads on the way to Starcross.

There’s a choice of three routes: The Inspire (short) route is 36 miles (57 km) with approximately 2,300 ft (700 m) of ascent. The Challenge (medium) distance route covers  64 miles (103 km) with approximately 5,700 ft (1,700 m) of ascent. Or there’s the Extreme (long) route which covers 110 miles (177 km) with around 10,000 ft (3,000 m) of ascent including gradients up to 20%. Be warned, all three routes finish with quite a tough climb. If the pros were racing it, it would be a ‘puncheur’s’ course for the likes of Julian Allaphillippe or Philippe Gilbert in his pomp.

Gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded to all riders based on finishing times.

The Extreme and Challenge routes also include a KoM / QoM Segment Challenge on the iconic Haytor Hill Climb.

  • Plastic-free event
  • Recycling
  • Sustainability policy
  • Trees not tees

This event is doing its best to minimise the environmental impact of this event. Here are a few of their initiatives:

Sustainability overview

  • Trees not tees

For all events which include a t-shirt, there is the option to plant a tree instead through a partnership with Treesnottees

  • Avoid single-use plastics

New paper cups have been sourced to be fully recycled back into high-grade paper.

  • Optional medals

Lots of competitors are not interested in finishers' medals so they are now optional. A £2 charity donation is made for every medal not selected.

  • Swim hats on request

Swim hats are provided for open water swimming events as they help the water safety teams keep track of swimmers. However for all pool events, swim hats are now on request to reduce wastage.

  • Reuseable zip ties and recycling

Reusable zip ties are used and all rubbish is sorted for recycling after the event.

  • Reducing car use

At the Burrator 10K running race those who commit to walking or cycling to the event get £5 discount.
