Event overview

Route: The route follows the Newcastle Way which is a way marked trail. The Marathon, starts close to the centre of Newcastle town centre and follows a route up through Tollymore forest and then across to Castlewellan forest, before making its way down to Murlough. You will go through the National Trust Murlough Reserve and onto the beach where you will follow the beach to finish in Newcastle. The Half Marathon, starts just outside Castlewellan forest and follows the same route as the Marathon back to Newcastle, those taking part in the Half Marathon will have the option to take a bus to the start. We do not add additional markers to the route in any way, the route is already marked with trail markers, it is your responsibility to look for the markers. We do supply a GPX file of the route that you can follow on your own device (watch/mobile phone using a GPX app or hand held GPS device, details on how to download a GPX app to your phone can be found on our website.
