Overview
All race distances follow a similar type of terrain.
Undulating downland is the key feature, following ancient tracks, or droves as they are known due to their historic role as routes to market for cattle and sheep. We also use grassy field margins, shady woodland paths, and the ancient turf of Martin Down Nature Reserve.
History
Your run will take you through a landscape full of history.
The race name comes from Cranborne Chase, King Johnβs favourite hunting ground, but earlier on it was influenced by the Romans, who built a large villa in the village of Rockbourne. Pre-dating this, you see countless Bronze Age burial mounds, and for a couple of miles, runners in the marathon and half follow Bockerley Dike, an Iron Age boundary earthwork. The whole area has been rich in Neolithic archaeology, and a huge earth mound on Martin Down gives a clue to the site of a WW2 rifle range.

As my first trail running event, I genuinely couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Extremely well organised with an incredible route and a lovely crowd of people. Everything from the start to the aid stations was well stocked and the route perfectly signposted, which really helped as a first-timer. You can tell the organisers are passionate and go above and beyond to support runners throughout the day. A joy to experience and one I’ll be recommending to everyone. William A
Keep it as it is. I’ll always take part. Kelvyn W
Absolutely fantastic event with seamless organisation! Sigrid L
A really fantastic event set in beautiful countryside. Very well run with excellent facilities. Emma D
Great course that felt relatively easy for me, making it a very enjoyable run — and the medal was fantastic. Kate L
My first 10k and everyone was so lovely. As the last person on the trail, runners were supportive and never made us feel pressured. The route was very well signposted and the halfway goodie stop, complete with music, was perfect. I will return. Debbie B
Really well thought-out trail with a great mix of road and paths, plus brilliant views of the Chase. I’ll definitely be booking again. James Y
This was my first ever 10k and I had no idea what to expect, but everything was a breeze from registration to navigation. The route was clearly signed with arrows and marshals throughout, and the halfway fruit station was a welcome bonus. A fantastic scenic run with wide open spaces and great views. The organisers and runners were incredibly encouraging, making this a really positive experience for a newbie. Andy W
Brilliant trail run. This is my fifth year running with Tri County Trail Running and I love it — beautiful venues with well organised and well planned routes. Kate R
Superstars of an organising team. Despite issues with signs being taken down, the race director and volunteers handled it brilliantly. I’ll be back next year. Matthew B
