Event overview

Have you ever wanted to try and run (or walk!) 100 miles but felt they were too intimidating, too exclusive, or just not made for you?

This event has been designed to be the most accessible, inclusive and supportive 100-mile ultra in the UK.

With no qualifying times needed, no barriers to entry, a walker-friendly 2.5mph completion pace, fully waymarked routes, fully supported in event logistics and fully stocked pit stops. The Rat Race team are here to help you go the distance and support you to this bucket list finish line, no matter your pace or background.

The inaugural event achieved the highest completion rate for this distance in the UK. 65% of the field claimed this glorious medal at the foot of Edinburgh Castle and the aim is to make that even higher next time.

With a specific focus on welcoming women to the start line with dedicated female-focused support on course, there has been a surge in women signing up.

Transport

The nature of this ultra is that it is a one-way journey and therefore you have to plan your logistics a bit if you do not have supporters with you.

Bamburgh to Edinburgh

There will be an event car park in Bamburgh where you can park your car.

There will be post-event bus transfers back to this car park from Edinburgh city centre. Spaces are limited so make sure you book your seat on the bus if you need to use this service.

Edinburgh to Glamis

Edinburgh to Glamis lends itself well to utilising public transport. The recommendation is to arrive on the train into Edinburgh city centre and stay centrally. This will place you in easy distance of the start line. If you are driving you'll need to find a long term car park in the city centre.

There will be a free shuttle from the finish to Dundee train station. This will run on a loop so please expect to wait at busy times as it is a 1 hour round trip. There will also be parking available at the finish so supporters can pick you up. There will be coaches back to Edinburgh city centre which will run at set times post-event. You can book yourself a seat on one of these coaches in your account once you've signed up.

Reviews from events from the same organiser:

From the moment I signed up to the final goodbye this event was staged perfectly. Starting with the pre-race meetings, info, kit lists. All were well thought out and thorough. The kit list was overwhelming at first but interesting how many items various people used during the event that I may have scoffed at initially. Pre-event meetings were spot on for the info I needed. Upon arrival the set up and accommodations were as described from rough to 4 star hotel quality. Pre-ride daily updates were helpful, the pit stops were great. Dinners and breakfast had the right variety and amounts. Most importantly the staff were unbelievably friendly, accessible and knowledgeable. This was my first Rat Race adventure. It will not be my last. Mark Mason

Excellent organisation, unbelievably friendly and adaptable people, nothing was too much trouble, possibly the best trip I've ever been on. Mike Storey

THE WALL ULTRA Rat Race Adventures it’s not punishment, it’s like going to see an old friend, you will fall out with the Wall many times, you will love huge amounts of it, meet many new friends and when you see the bridges on the Tyne it will wash away the pain (for an hour or two πŸ˜‚) then you will say never again and book soon after. Dean Henson

Excellent adventure. Great Team to help you through a challenging but enjoyable challenge. Lasting memories and will do another soon. Recommend everyone should do a Rat Race. Live a Great Story. Keith

Fantastic event and organisation. Communication in the build up was brilliant, plenty of detail and information. Race day everything was organised to perfection, aid stations well stocked with all sorts of treats! Route was very clearly waymarked and sensibly chosen and all the volunteers both on course, before and after the race were phenomenal and enthusiastic. Rhiannon S
