All competitors will be required to attend the briefing 15 minutes before their race start on the water’s edge.

It’s a superb lake swimming venue where you’re not normally allowed to swim! There’s also lakeside camping available if you want to make a weekend of it.

Start

All swims will be started in the water as the entry to the lake is not suitable to run into.

Parking

There is plenty of parking at the Cafe close to the start/finish but you do need to pay for it. You can pay in cash or using the Ringo parking app. The Ringo parking location is 71657.

This event is doing its best to minimise the environmental impact of this event. Here are a few of its initiatives:

Sustainability

• Trees not tees

  For all events which include a t-shirt, there is the option to plant a tree instead through a partnership with Treesnottees

• Avoid single-use plastics

  New paper cups have been sourced to be fully recycled back into high-grade paper.

• Optional medals

  Lots of competitors are not interested in finishers' medals so they are now optional. A £2 charity donation is made for every medal not selected.

• Swim hats on request

  Swim hats are provided for open water swimming events as they help the water safety teams keep track of swimmers. However for all pool events, swim hats are now on request to reduce wastage.

• Reuseable zip ties and recycling

  Reusable zip ties are used and all rubbish is sorted for recycling after the event.

• Reducing car use

  At the Burrator 10K running race those who commit to walking or cycling to the event get £5 discount.

Prizes

• Podium prizes for the Top 3 overall in a number of categories. These will vary depending on entry numbers.
• One prize per person policy. So if a vet is the overall winner they will get that medal and prize and the other Vet 40s will move up one place.

My first ever swimming event, and in the open, was well organised with good and timely comms before the event. On the day the pre-swim briefing was excellent, as a first timer to learn about swimming into the wind and sighting was well received.
