These races have been designed to be as safe as possible, without reducing the scale of the challenge. After all, these are tough events which you've knowingly signed up for! Please understand that participation in this event is a serious undertaking and carries risk.
The Rab 14 Peaks Ultra™ and Rab Snowdon SkyRace® routes were designed to offer a real test of mountain running, speed, endurance and technical ability on a truly uncompromising course, designed to challenge skyrunners of all abilities. These are truly world-class SkyRace routes!
The routes feature sustained sections of scrambling at Grade 1 difficulty. Specifically, these are Tryfan North Ridge (SkyRace only) and Crib Goch (west-bound traverse). You are advised to research what constitutes ‘Grade 1’ difficulty, as well as the nature of the scrambles present on this route, well ahead of the event.
In addition to the above, there are lengthy sections of highly technical terrain that all participants must negotiate, where use of hands may be required by less technically confident runners. Most of the route is very rough underfoot with long sections of rocky terrain, which can be very slippery underfoot if wet.
The entire race route is subject to potentially severe weather, typical of the mountainous areas within this region of Eryri/Snowdonia. For this reason, competitors must be confident in their ability to complete the route within the Checkpoint cut-offs, in all but the most adverse weather conditions. Bad weather routes may be enforced.
For an event of this nature, real mountain running experience and ability is more relevant than race results. It is expected that you arrive on the start line well trained, physically and mentally and confident in your ability to safely complete the race within the time limit.
These are not events for trail-running novices.

Covering an area of 827 square miles and established in 1951, Snowdonia is the second largest National Park in the UK and home to the highest peaks in the UK outside of Scotland. From its 37 miles of beautiful beaches where you can surf, to rugged, ridge-laden mountain peaks and an array of pristine lakes in-between, there is something to please every outdoor enthusiast here!

Dance like a fairy over magically runnable trails to the stunning panoramic views that await on Moel Eilio summit.
This route is dead on 10 miles of easy, runnable terrain, with 950m+ elevation gain and taking in Moel Eilio summit in the first half (be sure to take a moment to wonder at the substantial summit cairn; believed to be a burial site from the bronze age!). From here the route drops down to the water point before returning home via Bwlch Maesgwm AKA ‘Telegraph Valley’.

I have done Glen Coe Skyline twice and while I don’t doubt that Curved Ridge and Aonach Eagach provide exposure and challenges, what is between is very much boggy fell running. Not here in Wales, the route is relentless, technical and hard. Tryfan and then the climb to Crib Goch and the traverse are just so special. This is an epic route, it will become a classic. It’s now the UK’s best race!
What a course! From start to finish it had it all, a true mountain athletes dream!! This technical, tough and stunning route really should be celebrated. The same way Trofeo Kima, Zegama attracts us brits overseas to experience different cultures and trails, the Snowdon SkyRace and its special course should do the same for top athletes in Europe. If you come from a climbing background this race will suit you big time. But do not underestimate thigh-trashing long runnable descent to the end! Wow! Everything a sky running race should be. A brilliant route with relentless climbs, exposed scrambles and heaps of technical running.
