Event overview

Tavistock Triathlon uses the amazing Olympic legacy 50m pool at Mount Kelly. It’s not just 50 metres long but has wide, 3 metre lanes. The 25m pool next door is used for the kids triathlon.

The bike is on quiet rolling roads and the run uses the old railway line.

The transition area and Tristars bike and run routes are in the stunning grounds of Mount Kelly College. The bike and run courses are mainly on grass around the grounds.

  • Recycling
  • Sustainability policy
  • Trees not tees

Sportiva Events is doing its best to minimise the environmental impact of this event. Here are a few of their initiatives:

Sustainability

  • Trees not tees

For all events which include a t-shirt, there is the option to plant a tree instead through a partnership with Treesnottees

  • Avoid single-use plastics

New paper cups have been sourced to be fully recycled back into high-grade paper.

  • Optional medals

Lots of competitors are not interested in finishers' medals so they are now optional. A Β£2 charity donation is made for every medal not selected.

  • Swim hats on request

Swim hats are provided for open water swimming events as they help the water safety teams keep track of swimmers. However for all pool events, swim hats are now on request to reduce wastage.

  • Reuseable zip ties and recycling

Reusable zip ties are used and all rubbish is sorted for recycling after the event.

  • Reducing car use

At the Burrator 10K running race those who commit to walking or cycling to the event get Β£5 discount.

The pool is great. Having only done open water triathlons before, I did wonder how cluttered things would be in the pool but there was ample room for passing and the pool itself is lovely. Bike course was nice. All the hard work in the first half and then rewarded with a speedy downhill second half with only left turns & not at all busy and easy to follow. Run was tough with a few steep hills and a bit twisty, turny but well marshalled. I enjoyed this a lot. The pool make it good for beginners and the hills make it nicely challenging for more experienced triathletes. Really friendly marshals at transition too.

Brilliantly organised event - the marshalls and all the Sportiva staff were super friendly and helpful as always. Great work Ben. Ben S

Excellent event, well organised, fun, party atmosphere at HQ, great location and lovely routes. Mr K

Tavistock tri. Great event, well ran and great fun overall. Rebert I

The quality of the marshalling was outstanding. David L

The swim is a great chance to experience the joy of a snake swim.  Really well organised in the pool so you feel calm and ready to swim your best.  Transition area was spacious and lots of friendly help if needed. Tess I

A super event all round. Great opportunity to use the 50m pool and run the course in beautiful surroundings. The bike course is a safe route and easy to follow. The marshalls are always supportive and the event overall was well organised.  Defo a course to do again next year! Annie E

My favourite course! Adam K

Great event and a nice opportunity for a snake swim. Bike ride is lovely and a tasty Run to finish it off. My advice would be to save something for the run as the climb at the start is brutal! Jay N
