Overview

A loop around England’s largest  town, starting at the historic Market Square, following the river past Northampton’s three main sporting grounds; Sixfields stadium (football), Franklin’s Gardens (rugby) and The County Ground (cricket), through two beautiful parks, passing through the modern University campus and returning to the Market Square.

Description

The Amazing Northampton Run starts at the entrance to the historic Northampton town market square. To your left as you cross the start line look out for the Edwin Lutyens-designed war memorial.

Turning down the hill you will pass the impressive All Saints Church.  A little further along look out for Carlsberg Brewery. They’ve been brewing in town for 50 years! (If Carlsberg did half marathons!)

Following along the River Nene towards Sixfields Reservoir and heading up towards Sixfields Stadium where Northampton Town have been playing since 1897. Continuing along into Franklin’s Gardens, the home of Northampton Saints Rugby for the last 140 years.

Running down the closed Spencer Bridge Road and over the railway you won’t be able to miss the Northampton International Academy as it gleams in your eye line.

Many local runners will recognise the next section as The Racecourse is home of Northampton Parkrun each Saturday morning.  After a lap of the park you will pass the Central Mosque on your right before turning to run alongside the Northants County Cricket Ground.

You will enter Abington Park next, where you will run around the large lake before heading out for a lovely downhill section.

Taking the footbridge over the A45 and under the main road structure you will find yourselves at the White Water Centre on the River Nene.  From here, you will head past floating restaurant The Arc, and over the bridge into the University of Northampton Waterside campus. Later leaving the University campus via Beckets Bridge – an innovative designed 180 metre footbridge.

Within the final miles you will pass Northampton Museum, The Royal and Derngate theatre and the historic Guildhall. Turn at The Mackintosh House (78 Derngate), famous for its art deco architecture and then enjoy a long straight downhill to the finish by the Market Square.

The course is measured by the Association of UK Course Measurers and comply with all UKA standards – Certificate No. 23/022. Course distance is 13 miles 193 yards.

The course was really interesting with different points of interest to look forward to and they helped keep me going like thinking am running to sixfields, then racecourse, Abington park, Uni and back into town. Going a different way round the cobblers stadium would be good as had to walk up the steps as didn’t want to risk falling over by running up them. Also the narrow canal path after bridge street meant all the racers were crammed together for a period with no one been able to pass each other. Haydn D

Really well organised and run event! From social media activity leading upto the event with information, to really supportive Marshall’s and pacers as well as supporters from local businesses along a fantastic route showing off the best bits of Northampton! Really enjoyed the run and will be back next year! Cherise G

Total AMAZING! Loved it, well organised x Karen E

Having done the last 4 years on the old course this years was like a real challenge and fun ! I really liked the steps at the football ground, also seeing the sights of Northampton, it was brilliant how we came down Abington street with the crowd cheering from both sides to the finishing line! Having Michelle Lewis calling the names as we finished was brilliant! I would give the event 100 out of 100 well done to all the team! ❤️ Peter V
