Event overview
The Torbay Team Relays return in spring, offering two exciting formats back-to-back — perfect for friends, clubs and teams who love fast, friendly competition.
First, it’s the Standard Relay Triathlon, followed an hour later by the Mixed Team Relay Triathlon. Both events take place at the Torbay Velopark, with smooth tarmac circuits, a pool swim and a lively, social atmosphere.
Standard Team Relay
Each team member takes on one or two disciplines — swim, bike or run.
- Teams: 2 or 3 competitors (any gender mix)
- Swim: 400m (16 lengths)
- Bike: 19.5K (13 laps)
- Run: 5K (2 laps)
Mixed Team Relay
Fast, fun and fiercely competitive, this format mirrors the Olympic and World Triathlon Championship Series event. Each of the four team members completes a super sprint triathlon before tagging the next.
- Teams: 4 competitors (minimum 2 female members)
- Swim: 300m (12 lengths)
- Bike: 7.5K (5 laps)
- Run: 1.8K (1 lap)
- Note: All-male or 75% male teams can take part, though not eligible for prizes.
Key details
- Both relays start in waves of up to 12 swimmers.
- Two swimmers share each lane, staying on their own side — so no overtaking required.
Get your teammates together, choose your format, and enjoy an unforgettable day of team triathlon racing at Torbay Velopark.

Love this relay event. Do another one this year! Mark W
Great fun, well organised. We were at the slower end of the field but still encouraged and made to feel welcome. Thoroughly recommend. Sarah W
The marshals particularly stood out for me. They were very engaging and supportive. It made the event even more enjoyable. I entered the team event with my family. The course enabled my son and girlfriend to get great times and my wife and I to enjoy a slower pace. No pressure from others and some great memories. Peter B
Good fun and although well ran you didn’t feel like it was too serious . Some Ironman events o find a little severe rather than applying some common sense . This event did just that , safety is everything but sometimes if you break the odd rule like putting your shoes on before your helmet really doesn’t matter 😂😂great fun will be back next year. Paul G
Had loads of fun! Vimal P
Highly recommend. Richard S
Cheerful land helpful staff and marshals. Could have been more marshals on the run course. Jane B
Really enjoyed this event having never done a triathlon relay before. The marshals were great. Rebecca B

- Plastic-free event
- Recycling
- Sustainability policy
- Trees not tees
Sportiva Events is doing its best to minimise the environmental impact of this event. Here are a few of their initiatives:
Sustainability
Trees not tees
For all events which include a t-shirt, there is the option to plant a tree instead through a partnership with Treesnottees
Avoid single-use plastics
New paper cups have been sourced to be fully recycled back into high-grade paper.
Optional medals
Lots of competitors are not interested in finishers' medals so they are now optional. A £2 charity donation is made for every medal not selected.
Swim hats on request
Swim hats are provided for open water swimming events as they help the water safety teams keep track of swimmers. However for all pool events, swim hats are now on request to reduce wastage.
Reuseable zip ties and recycling
Reusable zip ties are used and all rubbish is sorted for recycling after the event.
Reducing car use
At the Burrator 10K running race those who commit to walking or cycling to the event get £5 discount.
