A tale of two counties

What makes this event special is the chance to experience two very different ultrarunning routes in one event. Runners can choose either of the standalone 50km courses or take on the full 100km by completing both loops back-to-back, returning to HQ midway for a pit stop before heading out again.

The 100km route begins by heading west from Hebden Bridge towards Burnley, passing through the picturesque village of Worsthorne before entering the beautiful grounds of Towneley Park. From there the course turns towards Cliviger and climbs onto the Pennine tops, where runners face a tough ascent to Gaddings Dam and the iconic monument of Stoodley Pike, before descending back into Hebden Bridge and HQ.

After a brief stop at the base, runners set out on the second loop towards the historic Brontë village of Haworth, continuing across to Bingley before travelling through the lush woodland of Cottingley Woods, known for its greenery and waterfalls. The route then passes Ogden Water, climbs back onto the moorland, and heads toward the finish.

Two very different 50km routes

50K routes with character

The Lancashire “Red Rose” 50km is the more rugged option. While it has a similar overall elevation to the Yorkshire loop, much of the climbing comes in the latter stages, making it a rewarding challenge for experienced trail and fell runners.

The Yorkshire “White Rose” 50km is slightly gentler by comparison, featuring rolling hills and a little more road running. This makes it an excellent introduction to ultrarunning for those stepping up to the distance for the first time.

For runners attempting the full 100km, the return to HQ halfway provides the perfect chance to refuel, change socks or shoes, and prepare for the second leg.

The only cut-off point for the 100km is at Ledbetter Road at 4:00am.
