A fun watersport event that Lonely Planet described as one of the top 50 'must do' things from around the world. 'It is a completely mad, daft environment'.

Age 14-100
The challenge is to complete 120 yds which is two 60 yd lengths of the infamous Waen Rhydd bog trench in the fastest time. Obviously there are rules the main ones being all competitors should wear facemask or goggles, flippers and a snorkel tube for breathing through whilst bogsnorkelling face down.
There are Female and Male categories though only the fastest will become the overall Bogsnorkelling World Champion.
There is also the ‘no armstroke allowed’ rule so basically it is all about leg power and balance. Doggy paddle is permitted but this must be done below the water level.
At present the record for this is 1 min 12.34 seconds set in 2023 by Neil Rutter The fastest recorded time in the Females category is 1 minute 22.56 seconds set in 2014 by Kirsty Johnson which was also then the fastest overall time ever.
There are Female and Male categories though only the fastest will become the overall Bogsnorkelling World Champion. It is not unusual for this to be a female.
Age categories are Juniors 14/15 yrs, Seniors 16 yrs plus, over 50’s and International competitors.
Alternatively perhaps you may prefer to compete in the fancy dress/costume category which requires the competitor to only complete one length of the trench (60 yds) this is not a timed competition. The winners would be the competitors with the best costumes who have completed a minimum of one length of the bog.
There are refreshment stalls including a bar and live music plus other sellers of produce. Spectators are welcome free of charge though there may be a small surcharge
There is a free minibus service provided from the Town.
