Event overview

Wythenshawe Community Run have been hosting a completely free 2k or 5k at Wythenshawe Park for the last four years. The course has a running track start and finish and is mostly on the unsealed paths and tracks around the beautiful Wythenshawe Park, The paths are wide and solid underfoot but is there is no concrete so very good for the knees! This is basically a cross country run without any mud! The course is mostly a flat, fast course. Each finisher will receive a specially designed bespoke medal. In May 2026 we are hosting our third Wythenshawe Community Run 10k race in memory of our extraordinary strong and special friend Mike Dunne, this is a professionally chip timed, flat, multi-terrain race. Mike loved running, helping out at runs, organizing runs and he loved helping others! He enjoyed all this because of the friendship he found with his fellow runners, his competitive nature led him to record some amazing times across all distances but he was always supportive to other runners and he helped many people of all ages who were new to running with his advice and encouragement. Mike was sadly diagnosed with mesothelioma cancer in late 2022 and passed away in May 2023. On the 4th June 2023 we had our usual free 5k as a memorial run for Mike. Two years ago we decided to do our first ever 10k race and we did it in memory of Mike but also to raise funds for the two charities that supported Mike and his family during his illness. In that first year we raised money for  'St Ann's Hospice' and 'Greater Manchester Asbestos Victims Support Group' and we raised a £1000 for each charity, last year we raised £1500 for the same two charities and are looking to raise more this time around for the same charities.
