Rethink Mental Illness do exactly as their name suggests, helping to change perceptions of mental illness and support anyone who has been affected by mental health conditions. They provide services and groups across the UK to support people with mental illnesses, as well as providing mental health training and campaigning on a local and national level to improve mental health provisions.
Their history
Back in 1970, journalist John Pringle wrote a column in The Times about his son's experience of schizophrenia, leading to many carers contacting him in support. Some of these carers decided to found an organisation that, while initially focused exclusively on schizophrenia, is known today as Rethink Mental Illness.
Over the past 50 years, the charity has founded support groups in local areas, campaigned on a national level for changes to the Mental Health Act, established training courses to professionals, and much, much more.
The campaigns that Rethink Mental Illness are instrumental in developing focus not just on people living mental illness but their families and carers, helping to support everybody affected by mental illness.

Rethink Mental Illness reach thousands of people across the UK every year but to do so, they need charitable donations and fundraising. If you want to be active outdoors, taking part in an event organised by the charity or representing them in a major running or cycling event will help to fund their services and raise support for this brilliant cause.
You can sign up to events like the Snowdon Triple Challenge, a multi-activity adventure organised by Rethink Mental Illness. Participants hike, bike and paddle through the incredible landscape of Snowdonia, creating unforgettable memories at the same time as supporting the charity.
