What to expect
There’s no higher abseil in Portsmouth – and none more rewarding. From your lofty starting point, you’ll enjoy sweeping views of Portsmouth Harbour, the Solent and even the Isle of Wight, all from an exhilarating 100 metres above sea level.
On arrival, you’ll head to the podium level, where expert abseilers will kit you out with your safety gear and harness before delivering a full safety briefing. You’ll then step into the high-speed lift, travelling at 4 metres per second up to the viewing platform, where you’ll be guided to the external hatch at 100 metres. Here, your harness will be securely attached to one of the two safety lines you’ll use for your descent.
Take a moment to settle into your harness, give a wave, and push past every instinct as you lean back and trust the rope. As you descend, soak up the far-reaching views across Portsmouth and beyond—an unforgettable moment you’ll carry long after your feet touch the ground.

Tripadvisor reviews:
I had the most amazing experience abseiling down the 100m of the Spinnaker Tower! Been on my bucket list for a while and decided to do it for charity. I had a blast! Anon
Great experience. Never believed views would be so good on a cloudy day, hence never went before. Staff very helpful with a wheelchair user (but do check as they are limited on wheelchair numbers at the same time) loved the experience & welcoming staff!! Joanna H, Nov 2025
Great experience from start to finish. Staff knowledgeable, friendly and focussed on safety. Would recommend to all those looking for a personal challenge! Helen D, Oct 2025
100% do the abseil again! The abseil was one of the most incredible experiences. Not only were the views stunning, but the team were brilliant. Really made you feel at ease, and had good banter which is brilliant for those that were nervous. Honestly you have to give the abseil a try - and to top if off seven of us raised money ... and raised over £3,000. thank you spinnaker tower for this incredible opportunity. Lisa C, Sep 2025
One of the best experiences of my life. When I first put in to do the abseil down the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth, I was just a bit, well, I’m scared of heights, so let’s go for it. I’m 73 years old and thought I did not want to miss the chance of a lifetime.
On the day, the staff were brilliant, I got to abseil down the Tower. And I, for some reason, did not get scared about the height at all. And if I have done it again straight away again I would have. The staff at the Spinnaker tower were amazing. From the Admin side of things to the people in charge of the abseiling side of things. So yes, I would recommend the Spinnaker Tower. Visitors are made to feel welcome by a very professional and friendly team. Mark W, Sep 2025
Fundraising
Princess Alice Hospice is a community response charity, founded by the local community 40 years ago. It is committed to delivering outstanding care for patients and their families – both in the community and within our Hospice. They know they can’t prevent death, but will do everything they can to make it as good as possible. The charity believes that hospice care is for living.
Your support can help make a real difference. Here are some of the ways that your fundraising could help:
How your support helps
£18.73
Could pay for a child to attend one monthly session of our Dovetail group, which is for those who have recently been bereaved and offers emotional support.
£50.92
Could pay for one hour of care for a patient on the in-Patient Unit where they address troublesome symptoms that can be difficult to treat at home.
£104.61
Could pay for a visit from a community-based Princess Alice Nurse at a patient’s home. The nurse’s specialist advice and support help patients and their families and friends to cope with the physical, emotional, social, or practical difficulties that people face when they have a life-limiting illness.
